Academic and Learning Assessments in Melbourne

Comprehensive Academic and Learning Assessment for Children and Adults

Our Academic and Learning Assessment service in Melbourne provides an in-depth evaluation of an individual’s academic performance, focusing on key areas such as mathematics, reading, writing, spelling, listening, and oral language skills. This assessment identifies potential learning difficulties and determines if an individual meets the criteria for a Specific Learning Disorder (SLD) diagnosis. By understanding these areas, we offer targeted support and recommendations to improve learning outcomes in educational settings.

What is Included in an Academic and Learning Assessment?

Our assessments are comprehensive and tailored to meet each individual’s needs, providing actionable insights. This service includes:

  • Four or More Assessment Consultations: Multiple sessions ensure a thorough and reliable assessment of academic strengths and challenges.
  • Detailed Questionnaires: These are completed by the individual and, if applicable, by parents and teachers to provide a comprehensive understanding of the learning context.
  • Professional Report Writing: A detailed report summarises assessment outcomes, identifies learning strengths and areas for improvement, and recommends strategies for academic support.

Tests Utilised in the Learning Assessment

We utilise well-established and respected tests to thoroughly evaluate academic and cognitive abilities:

  • WISC-V / WPPSI-IV Tests: These tests assess cognitive capabilities in children (aged 2+) and adults, providing insights into reasoning, memory, and processing speed.
  • WIAT-III: This academic tool assesses skills in reading, written and oral expression, and mathematics from preschool through secondary school.
  • BASC-3 Questionnaires: These tools provide a behavioural and emotional profile from the perspectives of teachers, parents, and the individual, offering valuable insights into factors influencing academic performance.

Academic and Learning Assessment Fees and Rebates

The base fee for our comprehensive Academic and Learning Assessment is $3,460. Depending on the specific tests required, there may be additional charges, and we provide full fee clarity following the initial consultation. Rebates may be available as follows:

  • Medicare Rebates: If you hold a valid Mental Health Care Plan and referral, Medicare rebates apply to the initial and feedback consultations.
  • Private Health Insurance: Rebates may also be available through Private Health Insurance if your plan includes psychology coverage.
  • Additional Rebates for Youth: Medicare may provide additional rebates for patients under 25 years; please contact us for further details.

Booking Process

Our straightforward booking process is designed to make accessing academic support as smooth as possible:

  1. Initial Patient Consultation (50 minutes): This consultation is for adults or the parents of children undergoing assessment. The consultation fee is $290 and may be claimable through Medicare or Private Health Insurance.
  2. Assessment Confirmation: After the initial consultation, we confirm the appropriate assessments and provide a detailed fee structure. The assessment fee, which includes report writing, typically ranges between $1,360 and $5,500, depending on the required tests.
  3. Feedback Consultation (50 minutes): The assessment concludes with a feedback consultation where a detailed report is provided. This session, priced at $290, may also be claimable through Medicare or Private Health Insurance.
