Autism Assessment in Melbourne for Children and Adults

Autism Spectrum Assessment in Melbourne

Our Autism Spectrum Assessment service in Melbourne offers a thorough evaluation for children, adolescents, and adults, aimed at identifying whether an individual meets the diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Autism is a neurodivergent condition that can influence how a person thinks, feels, and interacts with others. Individuals on the autism spectrum may have heightened sensitivities to sensory stimuli, strong focus on specific interests, and engage in repetitive behaviours. This comprehensive assessment not only identifies the presence of autism traits but also provides a deeper understanding of the individual's unique experiences to inform personalised support and intervention strategies.

What is Included in an Autism Assessment?

Our Autism assessment process is detailed, supportive, and structured to provide a complete understanding of the individual’s needs. This service includes:

  • Four or More Assessment Consultations: Multiple sessions to accurately capture a nuanced picture of the individual’s behaviours and social interactions.
  • Detailed Questionnaires: Questionnaires completed by the client and, if applicable, parents and teachers, providing insight into behaviours and experiences across various settings.
  • Professional Report Writing: A comprehensive report summarising the assessment outcomes, including recommendations for intervention and support.

Diagnostic Tools Used in Autism Assessment

We employ a range of standardised, evidence-based tools to ensure reliable and insightful Autism assessments:

  • WISC-V / WPPSI-IV: Cognitive assessments to gauge cognitive capabilities in individuals aged 2 and above, including adults.
  • ADOS-2: A semi-structured assessment specifically designed to observe and diagnose autism by assessing communication, social interactions, play, and repetitive behaviours.
  • ASRS (Autism Spectrum Rating Scales): Standardised tools completed by parents and teachers, which assess behaviours associated with autism in children and adolescents aged 2-18.
  • BASC-3: Behavioural and emotional assessments from the perspectives of teachers, parents, and the individual, highlighting factors affecting social and academic interactions.
  • VINELAND-3: A semi-structured interview tool that assesses adaptive behaviour, measuring practical, social, and conceptual skills needed for everyday functioning.

Autism Assessment Fees and Rebates

The fee for our Autism Spectrum Assessment is determined based on the individual needs of each client. For an accurate fee estimate, please contact our clinic. Rebates may also apply:

  • Medicare Rebates: Clients with a valid Mental Health Care Plan and referral letter may claim rebates for the initial consultation and feedback session.
  • Private Health Insurance: Psychology coverage through Private Health Insurance may provide additional rebates.
  • Additional Youth Rebates: Medicare rebates may be available for assessment consultations for clients under 25; please contact us for further details.
