Helping Children and Adults Understand Their Learning and Reach Their Potential
Dyslexia can affect reading, spelling, writing, and learning, often impacting confidence, academic achievement, and everyday functioning. A comprehensive dyslexia assessment can provide answers, identify strengths and challenges, and guide the next steps for support.
At TT Psychology, our experienced psychologists assess both children and adults, providing clear recommendations and practical strategies to help individuals thrive at school, work, and in daily life.
What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a specific learning disorder that affects the way the brain processes written language. Individuals with dyslexia may experience difficulties with reading, spelling, writing, and phonological processing despite having average or above-average intelligence.
While dyslexia can present challenges, early understanding identification and appropriate support can make a significant difference to learning, confidence, and long-term outcomes.

Who Should Consider a Dyslexia Assessment?
A dyslexia assessment may be beneficial if you or your child:
- Struggles with reading accuracy or reading fluency
- Has ongoing trouble spelling
- Finds written expression challenging
- Avoids reading or writing tasks
- Falls behind peers academically despite effort
- Experiences frustration, low confidence, or anxiety related to learning
- Has a family history of dyslexia or learning difficulties
Educational Assessment can be valuable for children, adolescents, university students, and adults seeking a better understanding of their learning profile.
What to Expect Throughtout the Detailed Assessment Process
Our booking process has been designed to provide easy and supportive access to dyslexia assessment services.
Initial Appointment (50 minutes)
The process begins with an initial appointment for adults seeking assessment for themselves or parents seeking assessment for their child. This session allows the clinician to gain a detailed understanding of current concerns, developmental history, educational progress, and any previous assessments or supports.
It can be helpful to bring relevant documents such as school reports, previous assessment reports, screening results, or health records.
Fee: $300 (may be eligible for reimbursement through Medicare or Private Health Insurance)
Assessment Confirmation
Following the initial appointment, we will outline the assessments required and provide a detailed estimate of fees. Assessment costs, including report preparation, vary depending on the complexity of the evaluation and the number of assessments required.
During Assessment
During these appointments, formal assessments are completed to evaluate a range of learning and cognitive skills. The clinician will guide the individual through a series of standardised tests and may provide online questionnaires to gather additional information.Assessments are tailored to the individual's age and needs and may explore areas such as:
- Reading
- Spelling
- Writing
- Phonological awareness
- Cognitive abilities
- Academic achievement
- Attention and behaviour (where relevant)
The aim is to develop a comprehensive understanding of strengths, challenges, and support needs.
Feedback Appointment (50 minutes)
Once the assessment is complete, a feedback session is arranged to discuss the results, explain any diagnoses where applicable, and provide recommendations for ongoing support.
A comprehensive written report is provided, outlining assessment findings and practical recommendations for home, school, university, workplace, and/or further intervention.
Fee: $300 (may be eligible for reimbursement through Medicare or Private Health Insurance)
Why Seek a Dyslexia Assessment?
A dyslexia assessment can:
- Provide clarity around learning challenges
- Identify individual strengths and areas of need
- Inform school-based supports and accommodations
- Assist with intervention planning
- Improve self-understanding and confidence
- Support access to educational adjustments and funding pathways where appropriate
For many individuals and families, understanding why learning has been difficult can be both empowering and relieving.

Dyslexia Assessment Frequently Asked Questions
Does dyslexia mean someone is not intelligent?
No. Dyslexia affects how language is processed, not overall intelligence. People with dyslexia have the same potential to learn and succeed as anyone else.
Is a dyslexia diagnosis possible for adults?
Yes. Many adults seek assessment after years of unexplained difficulties with reading, writing, study, or work tasks with an undiagnosed dyslexia. A diagnosis can provide clarity and access to helpful strategies and supports.
When should my child be assessed for a specific learning disorder?
As early as possible. If your child is consistently struggling with reading, spelling, writing, or language-based learning, an assessment can help identify their needs and guide appropriate support.
