A Creative Journey Towards Emotional Wellbeing
Art therapy at TT Psychology offers a nurturing, gentle approach for patients of all ages to explore their emotions and build coping tools through creative expression. Rather than depending entirely on words, art therapy Ormond provides a safe, engaging, and sensory-friendly space where thoughts and feelings may be explored at a pace that feels comfortable.
Sessions are led by Romi Kupfer, our qualified Art Therapist and Counsellor, who thoughtfully combines creative modalities with therapeutic approaches to support emotional wellbeing, self-awareness, and personal growth. Regardless of your artistic ability, this is a welcoming, safe space to explore and create freely and without fear.
Who May Benefit From Art Therapy?
Art therapy welcomes people of all ages and abilities, offering a relaxed, interactive approach with no skill restrictions or prior experience required.
Art therapy may be a supportive option for people in Ormond who:
Prefer creative or hands-on expression
Find talk-based therapy overwhelming or challenging
May benefit from sensory-safe or play-based approaches
Want a gentle, non-pressured way to explore emotions
Respond well to movement, colour, imagination, and tactile activities
Need a supportive way to build emotional vocabulary or self-awareness
This approach may be especially well-suited to children and teenagers who flourish with structure, creativity, and a warm environment, as well as adults seeking a meaningful, expressive pathway towards greater self-understanding and emotional wellbeing.
What Can You Expect in Art Therapy?
Ormond Art therapy sessions may include:

The Role of Art Therapy in Emotional Wellbeing
Art therapy offers a distinctive, accessible way to explore emotions, experiences, and identities through creative expression rather than conversation alone. For many children, teens, and adults, engaging with art may feel safer and more natural, particularly when thoughts and feelings are difficult to put into words.
This creative process may help to:
- Build emotional awareness by exploring feelings through art
- Build practical coping strategies that may support emotional regulation and resilience
- Address sensory needs through hands-on, calming, or structured creative activities
- Foster confidence and self-expression
- Process difficult or traumatic experiences at a pace that feels safe and supported
- Strengthen identity, particularly for LGBTIQA+ young people or anyone navigating important life transitions

Learning More About Art Therapy
Who is art therapy suitable for?
Art therapy is typically suitable for everyone; children, adolescents, young adults, and adults alike may all benefit from therapeutic creative expression. You don’t need to be artistic or have any experience, as all sessions are tailored to your comfort level and goals.
What does a typical art therapy session involve?
Art therapy sessions are usually 50 or 80 minutes in duration and may include a range of creative activities, supported reflection, and gentle therapeutic conversations where appropriate. Both individual and group sessions are offered to ensure that all participants feel comfortable throughout the process.
What should I bring along to my session?
Unless otherwise advised by your clinician, you won’t need to bring anything along to your session. All art materials are provided as part of our fees. We do, however, suggest wearing clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Our clinic has an extensive range of arts and crafts materials available, including beads, stickers, stencils, collage materials, paint, clay, sand tray, figurines, drawing supplies, pencils, crayons, textas, sewing materials, and more!
How are goals set for art therapy?
Romi works together with you (or with parents/carers for our younger patients) to establish clear, supportive goals based on your individual needs, interests, and preferred way of working. These goals may adapt and evolve over the course of your therapy as needed.
Are rebates available?
Detailed information about fees, rebates, and payment options is available on our Fees page. NDIS rebates are available for eligible participants and no referral is needed. Our team will ensure you understand your options before your first session.
How does art therapy differ from traditional therapy?
Unlike traditional talk therapy, art therapy allows people to express emotions and thoughts through visual, tactile, and creative mediums. It’s thought to be particularly helpful for those who find it difficult to articulate their experiences verbally (such as children or those processing trauma).
How to Book
Make a Booking
Contact us online or by phone, and our team will assist in organising your initial parent appointment at a time that is convenient for you.
Initial Parent Session
For children and teenagers, the process commences with a parent-only session in which we discuss the child's background, interests, strengths, and current challenges to help shape a personalised art therapy approach.
Initial Patient Session
The first art therapy session focuses on helping the child feel comfortable in the creative space. Activities are gentle and exploratory, and a parent may be asked to join for part of a session if it supports the child's confidence.
Ongoing Sessions
Your art therapist will then recommend a plan for ongoing sessions, outlining goals, session frequency and any additional supports that may help the child express, process and grow through creative work.
