A Creative Path to Emotional Wellbeing

Art therapy at TT Psychology offers a calming, supportive avenue for patients of all ages to explore emotions and develop practical coping tools through creative expression. Moving beyond words alone, art therapy McKinnon creates a safe, playful, and sensory-friendly space where thoughts and feelings may be explored and processed at a pace that feels right for each person.

Sessions are facilitated by Romi Kupfer, our qualified Art Therapist and Counsellor, who blends creative modalities with therapeutic exercise to support emotional wellbeing, self-awareness, and personal growth. No matter your artistic ability, this is a safe space to explore and create with fun and without fear.

  • Develop useful coping strategies that may assist with emotional regulation and resilience
  • Address sensory needs through hands-on, calming, or structured creative activities
  • Nurture confidence and support self-expression

An Introduction to Art Therapy

Art therapy is generally suitable for everyone; children, adolescents, young adults, and adults may all benefit from therapeutic creative expression. No artistic ability or prior experience is needed, as all sessions are thoughtfully tailored to your comfort level and individual goals.

Art therapy sessions usually run for 50 or 80 minutes and may involve creative activities, supported reflection, and gentle therapeutic conversations where appropriate. We offer both individual and group sessions to ensure that all participants are comfortable.

Unless your clinician has advised otherwise, there is no need to bring anything to your session. All art materials are included as part of our fees. We do recommend wearing clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. We stock an extensive range of arts and crafts materials, including beads, stickers, stencils, collage materials, paint, clay, sand tray, figurines, drawing supplies, pencils, crayons, textas, sewing materials, and more!

Romi works in partnership with you (or with parents/carers for our younger patients) to identify clear, supportive goals based on your unique needs, interests, and preferred way of working. These goals are reviewed and may be adapted throughout the course of your therapy as required.

Detailed information about fees, rebates, and payment options is available on our Fees page. NDIS rebates are available for eligible participants and no referral is needed. Our team will ensure you understand your options before your first session.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, art therapy allows people to express emotions and thoughts through visual, tactile, and creative mediums. It’s thought to be particularly helpful for those who find it difficult to articulate their experiences verbally (such as children or those processing trauma).

We welcome patients from all areas of Melbourne, including Caulfield, St Kilda, Balaclava, Ripponlea, Elwood, Armadale, Prahran, Brighton, Gardenvale, Ormond, Glen Huntly, Malvern, Windsor, Bentleigh, Mckinnon, Carnegie, Hampton and more suburbs.

For children and teens, the journey begins with a dedicated parent-only session where we take the time to discuss the child's background, interests, strengths, and current challenges in order to guide the art therapy approach.

Initial Patient Session

The first art therapy session is focused on easing the child into the creative space at a comfortable pace. Activities are gentle and exploratory, and a parent may be invited to join for a portion of the session if doing so helps to support the child's confidence and comfort.

Ongoing Sessions

Your art therapist will then put together a recommended plan for ongoing sessions, outlining goals, session frequency, and any additional supports that may assist the child in expressing themselves, processing experiences, and developing through creative work.
