ADHD Assessment
ADHD Assessments Designed to Support Mental Health and Wellbeing
An Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) assessment in Melbourne can help provide greater clarity around challenges with attention, focus and self-regulation. Whether the assessment is for you, your child or your teenager, our psychologists near Balaclava take a compassionate, neuro-affirming and individualised approach throughout the process.
For some people, ADHD mainly affects attention, organisation and concentration. For others, restlessness, energy and impulsive behaviour may be more noticeable. Many people experience features of both patterns.
What to Expect During an ADHD Assessment
Our ADHD assessments for Balaclava residents follow a structured and personalised process to help build a detailed picture of your experiences and support appropriate recommendations. This includes:
Multiple Assessment Appointments
Multiple appointments help us develop a more complete understanding of the individual’s symptoms, experiences and needs.
Detailed Questionnaires
Questionnaires are completed by the individual and, where appropriate, by parents and teachers to provide insight into behaviours and experiences across different settings.
Professional Report Writing
A comprehensive report summarises the assessment findings, outlining relevant ADHD symptoms and recommendations for support.

Tools Utilised in an ADHD Assessment
- WISC-V / WPPSI-IV: These tools assess cognitive abilities across children and adults, including areas such as memory, processing speed and related thinking skills.
- BASC-3: This assessment explores emotional and behavioural aspects of ADHD using input from the individual and, where relevant, parents and teachers.
- ACE / ACE+: A structured interview process is used to support ADHD assessment, with ACE for children and ACE+ for adults.
- Conners 3: A series of rating scales used to assess ADHD symptoms in children aged 6–18, with versions completed by parents, teachers and the young person.

ADHD Assessment FAQs
What symptoms may adults with ADHD experience?
Adult ADHD symptoms may include difficulties with attention, organisation, time management and impulsivity. An ADHD assessment can help explore whether these challenges may be associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
How do clinicians assess adults for ADHD?
Diagnosing ADHD in adults involves gathering information from multiple sources, including interviews, questionnaires and assessment of behavioural patterns. The aim is to understand the nature of the symptoms and their impact on everyday life.
How may cognitive behavioural therapy support adults with ADHD?
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) may be used alongside strategies informed by an adult ADHD assessment. It can support areas such as organisation, attention and the development of practical coping strategies.
When might an adult ADHD assessment be helpful?
An adult ADHD assessment may be appropriate for people who are finding it difficult to manage focus, impulse control, organisation or other executive functioning skills. The assessment can help build a clearer understanding of these concerns and inform ongoing support.
